Words wing away

In the olden days there were no mobile phones (except for the few professional rich) and most people used telephones that were fixed to the wall in their homes. It was cheaper to buy a phone card – a credit card, in effect – and use a public phone box. I used the ‘phone a lot, at home and in phone boxes; phone cards were discarded when used up and I collected them to paint on. These portraits are of the people I rang in one month.
